Role Overview:

 

To assist the team in delivering STUDIOCANAL’s strategy for development and production based in the UK. Prospective candidate will be expected to manage tasks on behalf of senior staff and work simultaneously on independent research and emerging talent tracking. The role is predominantly film focused, although there is the opportunity to support a small slate of TV projects as well.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

EDITORIAL

  • Read drafts for in-house development projects and provide clear notes for internal and external use to a high standard.

  • Read, assess and report on submissions with the strategic priorities of the company in mind. This can include scripts, books, treatments, remake titles, podcasts.

  • Assist in creating pitch decks and other visual materials to aid presentation of projects internally and externally.

  • Provide well-honed research for development ideas in consideration and assist in drafting pitch ideas.

  • Take meeting notes and assist with the collation of writer-facing development notes.

 

TRACKING

  • Help manage book scout relationship and identify potential literary material.

  • Review and identify potential remakes within STUDIOCANAL catalogue.

  • Track and regularly attend theatre, UK based film festivals (where possible), short films and film school graduation showcases. Clearly communicate discoveries and recommendations to wider team.

  • Build relationships with emerging talent – those graduating film schools, crossing over from theatre, directors who have made promising shorts etc.

  • Maintaining a good knowledge of the wider market and film & TV landscape – both UK and international.

  • Contact agents for writing and directing samples for talent.

 

ADMIN

  • Updating the Global development slate for internal and external use.

  • Coordinating internal greenlight process from budgeting to approval.

  • Liaising with Legal team on draft deliveries, option updates and project status updates.

  • Create lists of directors / writers / actors for projects in development.

  • Maintain a theatre tracking log.

  • Conduct talent availability checks as directed.

 

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience in a similar role in the film/music/entertainment industry.

  • Highly organized, confident, intuitive and able to work within a fast-paced environment and meet short deadlines.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

  • A keen interest and passion for film and popular culture.

  • A good eye for execution, quality, and finer detail.

  • A willingness and desire to learn and improve skillset.

 

Preferable Skills

  • Proficient in Final Draft, Adobe, and Microsoft (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
